Benefits of Responsive Design

“Responsive design” has become a bit of a buzz word these days in the marketing world, with many
webmasters speaking its praise for
providing an optimal user experience for browsing on mobile devices. And there’s no greater advocate to make the case for responsive design than Google. On July 6, 2012, Pierre Far,Google webmaster trends analyst, announced clear guidelines and recommendations on mobile SEO, which also addressed responsive design. While Google still recognized device-specific HTML as a viable
alternative, they recommend
responsive design, when possible, for the following reasons:

Maintaining one URL for your
website, regardless of whether it’s
being viewed on mobile devices or
a desktop, makes it easier for users
to respond to calls-to-action on
your site, such as a user sharing
one of your product pages on their
own Facebook page or linking to an
article on your website from their
own website.

By eliminating the need for
redirects, responsive design allows
users to easily navigate back and
forth between pages on your site,
with minimal load time.

Googlebot user agents only need to crawl your responsive web
design pages once to retrieve your
content.

While the rationale behind Google’s recommendation is sound, there’s still one critical component to
consider before deciding if responsive design is the right solution for your company: Content length. While responsive design takes into account how the design should look, it doesn’t take into account how the page will read. This means that if you have lengthy content on your web pages, your site may fit
proportionately on mobile device
screens, but users will be scrolling … and scrolling … and scrolling to read it all.

In addition, a mobile user is typically
interested in different content than a
desktop or tablet user and responsive
design may inhibit your ability to
tailor content specifically to mobile
needs. Mobile users are looking for
resources on-the-go, such as finding
coupons to use at a store they’re
currently shopping in or finding
directions to a nearby restaurant.
According to Google’s CPG Blog,
tablets are still primarily being used
while at home. For example, Google’s
research identified that some of the
most frequent tablet uses were
leisurely activities, including
checking email, playing games and
social networking.

Below is a graph that illustrates
some of the top reasons why
SmartPhone owners use the Internet on mobile devices, according to Google.

Although this shouldn’t deter you
from taking advantage of the many
great benefits of responsive design, it
is something to consider before
jumping on the bandwagon. You
want your site to provide the best
experience for users from a design
— and a readability — standpoint.

New Ideas for Blog Posts

When many businesses first start a
blog, it seems like the possibilities are
endless. Finally! You’ve found a place
to address all the other content that
speaks to your target audience, but
didn’t necessarily fit into your
business’ website. But, although the
topic ideas are plentiful at first, after
writing new blog posts a few times a
week for several months, you
inevitably hit a wall. Or you want to
hit your head against the wall. Either
way, you’ve run out of ideas and now
your head hurts, too. So how do you
get past the writer’s block to
generate new ideas? Follow these
five steps to get the creative juices—
and new blog post ideas—flowing
freely again.

Read other blogs
Start with a
competitor’s blog or a blog from
a business in a similar industry.
Then branch out to a few blogs
that are outside of your
industry, but that have great
content. Sometimes taking a
step back from a project you’re
close to can be the breath of
fresh air you needed to get
creative again.

Utilize social media channels to
see what your target audience
is talking about.

If your business’ blog is about
women’s fitness, what better
place to look for new ideas
then the Facebook page for
Women’s Health magazine or
the New York Marathon? What
types of questions are they
posting on their Facebook page
that people are “Liking” or
commenting on? Follow other
brands with complementary
services to your own on
Facebook, Twitter or other
social media platforms to see
what people are buzzing about.

Set up a Google Alert.
Choose
five to ten words you feel are
relevant to the types of
content you want to cover
within your blog. Then set up a
Google Alert to receive emails
in your inbox of news, blogs or
other content that mentioned
these keywords. This is not
only a great way to come up
with new blog post ideas, but
also a way to keep your finger
on the pulse of what’s going on
elsewhere that could be
relevant to your target
audience.

Look back at what worked in
the past.

If you use any measurement tools to track
blog post traffic (we
recommend Google Analytics),
look back over the last several
months to see which posts
received the most views on the
blog or interaction through
comments or social media
shares. Then brainstorm three
to five new posts you could
cover that fall within the same
category as the well-received
post. For example, if you
created a quiz titled, “How
Creative Are You?” you could
springboard off of that idea and
write a post on “What Type of
Creative Are You?” Sometimes,
being creative isn’t about
reinventing the wheel. It’s
about finding different ways to
use it.

Bounce ideas off of others.
If your office is set up anything
like ours (i.e. it has people who
work within it), chances are,
there’s someone nearby who
would be happy to take a
couple minutes out of their day
to hear some of your ideas, and
maybe even suggest a few of
their own. Even if it’s someone
in a completely different
department or role, sometimes
being creative is all about
getting a fresh perspective.

It’s much easier for someone who
hasn’t worked on the same
project day-in and day-out to
look at it from the outside and
say, “Hey, did you think about
[insert grand idea here]?” A
great idea is a great idea, and it
can come from anywhere. You
just have to ask.

PageRank Still has Some Use for SEO

Back in Google’s very early days,
Larry Page developed an algorithm
with fellow Google co-founder
Sergey Brin. It was dubbed PageRank
(which ended up being a wonderful
name because it is a metric that
measure web pages) and became a
key metric for how Google ranked
pages in its search results.
Despite such rich beginnings,
PageRank is now considered by many
SEOs to be a less meaningful metric
that too many people focus on for all
the wrong reasons. As Google has
shaped and refined its algorithm over
the years to include hundreds of
different factors, PageRank just isn’t
as important as it used to be, but it
still has some interesting value to
SEO.
As you may know, the formula for
calculating a PageRank is based on
linking. Essentially, every page in
Google’s index receives a PageRank,
based on the number of websites
linking to it and the relative quality
of these links. Scores come in a
logarithmic scale from 0-10, with 10
being the highest and most elusive
PageRank (not even google.com
ranks at 10).
When Google assigns a PageRank to
a site, it’s assigning a level of
importance. Pages that look
important get crawled and re-
indexed more frequently than
others. Getting your content crawled
at a higher rate means that it can be
ranked by search engines more
quickly – which can give you a leg up
on the competition.
PageRank is also a good indicator if
your site is having a problem. If your
site is being exploited by hackers or if
you are engaging in unscrupulous
SEO, Google is likely to warn you by
dropping your PageRank before
dropping your ranking in searches.
Although PageRank is not the be all
end all of SEO anymore, it is still a
useful indicator for certain aspects of
your site.

Google’s index of example.com

While writing several blog posts and documentation, I often have used
example.com to stand in for any
domain name. One of the Internet
standards established by the Internet engineers circa 1999 set aside example.com (as well as example.org and example.net) for documentation purposes. So if you were to click ona link to http://www.example.com in
my post, you wouldn’t see an actual web page. Click on this link to see for yourself.

I’d like to demonstrate a fun little
trick you can use to amaze your
friends.

The page you see is when you go to http://www.example.com is
completely indexable by the search engines. There’s not a lot of content, but you would think that the engines will have indexed the content
exactly as your browser shows it to
you. It turns out that there is a robots.txt file that blocks all spiders from all content inside www.example.com. (If you ever forget how to create a basic
robots.txt file, you can use this one
as a guide.) Alright, now for the punch line. Let’s see what the search engines really have indexed for
http://www.example.com. Go to
www.google.com and type“site:example.com” (without the
quotes). What do you see? If you see only one result, click on the link:
repeat the search with the omitted
results included.

I see 10,400 results now. There are
pages like example.com/blah/ and
www.example.com/concepts. The
Google search results page does not have links to the cached version for any of these results, unfortunately,so we can’t see what exactly Google has indexed from these pages, but
we can go to the page ourselves.
Well, I tried that, and every page I go to replies back with “Not Found.” It’s logical to conclude that those pages never existed, but also notice some of the results have been crawled by Google in the past few hours.
Impossible, no?

You can try this search on other
search engines too.
My feeling on this strange
phenomenon is that it could either be Google’s own testing or other people testing or somehow tricking Google into adding these pages to its index. It may be relegated to certain data centers as well.

Whatever is causing this, I’m sure
Google knows about it, but doesn’t
feel the need to do anything about it. This phenomenon may also get you thinking about how search engines are supposed to work.

traffic trick its work

I wanted to share a cool traffic trick I just discovered.
This one is super simple and can bring you hundreds of
extra visitors.
Here's how it works...
First, you need to go to Google and type in the following
search queries:
"Daily Link Roundup"
"Weekly Link Roundup"
"Monday Link Roundup"
"Friday Link Roundup"
"Link Roundup"
This will give you a list of blogs that do weekly link roundups
of good content from around the Web. And there are thousands
of blogs that do this on every imaginabletopic.
Now here's where you come in...
You can go to Google and look for a related blog that does
weekly roundups and then send the blog owner a link to your
your best content.
If you've published truly great content, then they are very
likely to link to you in their weekly link roundup, sending
you extra traffic and giving you a high-quality backlink.
This is an extremely powerful technique that I see VERY few
people using online.
It's super simple and can send you lots ofhighly-targeted
traffic. Your only job is to create truly valuable content.
Cheers!

Create Effective SEO Campaigns

SEO or search engine optimization isn’t an easy task, although it certainly is a pretty common misconception among web users and company owners. The truth is, SEO takes a lot of hard work and a lot of that hard work is part skill and part art.
When you think about SEO, your image isprobably one that is focused on content that is clearly written and easy for your customers to understand. Some of you may think of SEO as something that focuses mainly on keywords and as suchthink that SEO is largely a matter of choosing a set of keywords that you would typically use if you were thinking about searching for you business. These things are all true and that means SEO islargely a matter of using all of these techniques and not just one, to come up with the right content for your website.
Given that you have a broader understanding of SEO, let’s narrow that down to focus purely on keywords. Keywords as you probably already know; are the search terms which are typed into a search bar in order to find you. What you probably haven’t thought about, is the fact that keywords come in groups. Let’s use the illustration of a target for example. You have your inner circle and around it are your wider circles. That’ the same way keywords work too.
Essentially, the bulls-eye in this case is the primary keyword that your customermight be looking for. Let’s say for example that this is “best cheese in France”. You know from the keyword that they are probably looking for some sort of cheese in France. The thing is what you don’t know is what reasons they have for looking this up. Let’s say that part of their thinking process for example, is that they want to find out about how the cheese is cultured or get an idea of whether or not they are comfortable eating that cheese. It can also be that they are open to the thought of finding out which of those cheeses tastes like the regular cheese that they have at home.

As you can see, rather than a linear thought, the reasons why people search are more organic and more evolving. Very few of us actually search with just one thought in mind and rarely do we center all of that effort into one specific thing. That is why we get drawn by additional information in articles. We areessentially human beings that process information.
Of course, there is no set way to actually come up with the keywords on top of the main keywords but there are tools that can help you figure them out. A variety of SEO tools are available for searches within different search enginesand Google provides its own keyword search tool to show you the different keywords which are related to different searches.
Understanding how to use the tools and using some common sense and of coursea lot of imagination can be the key to correctly analyzing your SEO keywords and perfecting that technique for the rank of your website.

This search brings up sites with"config.php" files. To skip the technical discussion, this configuration file contains both a username and a password for an SQL database. Most sites with forums run a PHP message base. This file gives you the keys to that forum, including FULL ADMIN access to the database. To see view the PHP files; there in lies the catch. Browsers are made to process the commands of PHP before display, so if no commands, nothing to show. You can't use that persay to get into the config file, but it would show potential threats if someonegot into server anyway. (If that happens you're basically boned anyway, not much around that.To see results; just write in the (http://www.google.com/) search engine the code:intitle:index.of config.phpBy the way, to know how to view the PHP file contents, you can use this code:intitle:"Index of" phpinfo.php

tricks and techniques of Google Hacks ws_ftp.ini is a configuration file for a popular FTP client that stores usernames, (weakly) encoded passwords, sites and directories that the user can store for later reference. Theseshould not be on the web! That's some good stuff. Just copy/paste the text into your own WS FTP ini file and you're good as gold (assuming you're using the same version). 5 Tips to Help You Succeed in Your New Business Venture

Research Your Business Name
You likely have the ideal name for your business in mind at this point, but, have you researched it? Have you checked its availability as a trademark? Is a domain name available? Is the name available to use as a corporation or LLC? Do some research first before spending valuable resources promoting a business name that you may end up having to change in the future because you did not do your due diligence before printing up those business cards.

Learn the Requirements, Rules and Legalities Related to Your Chosen Business Entity Form
Did you decide to organize your business as a corporation? Were you sold on the entity form because you were told that you could best protect yourself against personal liability by incorporating your business? Yes to both? Congratulations, you are on your way, but there are requirements that you must comply withto maintain that limited liability protection. Have you filed your statement of information with the state? Will you remember to hold the required meetings? Did you set up separate bank accounts and are you prepared to keep your funds and accounting separate? These are all necessary formalities that must be adhered to if you are to benefit from the limited liability advantages that are offered by the corporate form. If not followed, your expected liability protection could be at risk. Corporations, and LLCs, have certain requisite structural rules that must be followed. Before you start operating, you should know them.

Know What Will Happen When You Make a Sale - Be Prepared for Success
If you received an order for your new product tomorrow, would you be able to fulfill it? Would you be able to collect payment? Do you know how you will ship it, and how much shipping will cost? If you received an inquiry from a potential customer, do you have the information ready to send to them or your pitch ready to tell them? If not, you need to get organized. Figure out the process from A to Z , and write it down. Why write it down? Because, even if you know it in your head, and you are the only employee of your company right now, what will happen if things take off and the orders start flowing in? Hiring anemployee (or 10) will be the result of success, and you will not have the time to sit down with each new employee andexplain every step in the order fulfillment process. But, if your employee is not properly trained and does not know each step, that could costyou. Clear and concise written instructions for your employees to follow (even if you do not have any employees just yet) can save you a lot of headaches and time, and ultimately gain you customers. Be prepared for success and success is more likely to find you.

Prepare a Written Business Plan
Few people start a business wanting only a short period of success. But, a lot of start-ups jump in without having a business plan in place; and more do so without a written one. To start with, think of a business plan as a map. If you've never been somewhere before, having a map help you navigate your way is helpful, if not necessary. In addition to being a map, a business plan is also a guide to use once you arrive. The map will tell you how to get there, and the guide will give you some information about your destination so that once you arrive you will know what to do. A business plan is a map and guide to your business’ success.

Be Prepared to Hire Your First Employee
As stated above, hiring employees is a very likely consequence of success. However, not knowing what laws and rules apply to your employees could quickly and easily derail your success train. Hiring your first employee can be an exciting time, and it should be something that you prepare for from thebeginning. To help assure a productive and lasting relationship, you should prepare your business and be ready to comply with your state's employment law rules and regulations. One way to dothis is to have templates of necessary employment documents and packets prepared in advance to give to newly hired employees and to have policies in place that can be communicated from the beginning to set a tone from day one. This will save you, as the boss and business owner, anxiety and stress in thefuture, will lessen the possibility of litigation and disputes, and will exhibit an organized and professional business setting to your employees once hired.

IP Addresses and Domains of Google's Data Centers

The progression of a Google Dance couldbasically be watched by querying the IP addresses of Google's data centers. But queries on the IP addresses are normallyredirected to www.google.com. However, Google has domains, which resolve to the single data centers' IP addresses. These domains as well as their IP addresses are shown in the following list.

Google Data Centers List June 2012
209.85.137.nnn - gfe-mg/mg2/mg3
209.85.141.nnn - gfe-pq/pq2/pq3

209.85.237.nnn - gfe-? - (NO GFE name allocated - direct access by IP address only - where nnn is 107,104 (but not 99,147,103), etc).
Those without a GFE name or which resolve only by direct IP address are the most interesting.
Domain IP Address
www-ex.google.com 216.239.33.100
www-sj.google.com 216.239.35.100
www-va.google.com 216.239.37.100
www-dc.google.com 216.239.39.100
www-ab.google.com 216.239.51.100
www-in.google.com 216.239.53.100
www-zu.google.com 216.239.55.100
www-cw.google.com 216.239.57.100
www-fi.google.com 216.239.41.100
www-gv.google.com 216.239.59.100

Note:
Searches at www-zu and www-sj are currently redirected to other data centers. Since results for searches at their IP addresses fluctuate heavily during a Google Dance, also these searches seem to be internally routed toother data centers.
Those that keep an eye on Google's index updates often think that the Google Dance is over, when they see thenew index at www.google.comor when they don't see the old index at www.google.comfor some time. In fact, the update is not finished until all the domains listed above provide results from the new index.
The index updates at the single data centers seem to happen at one point in time. As soon as one data center shows results from the new index, it won't switch back to the old index. This happens most likely because the index isredundant at each data center and at first, only one part of the servers (eventually half of them) is updated. During this period, only the other half of the servers is active and provides searchresults. As soon as the update of the first half of servers is finished, they become active and provide search results while the other half receives the new index. Thus, from the user's perspective, the update of one data centers happens at one pointin time.
www-ab.google.com, www-cw.google.com, www-dc.google.com, www-ex.google.com, www-fi.google.com, www-in.google.com, www-sj.google.com, www-va.google.comand www-zu.google.compoint at Google's datacentres.
When those nine return the same backlinks, that would normally be the sign that the update has finished. It's best to think of www.google.com, www2.google.com, www3.google.comand toolbarqueries.google.comas load balancing domains that can be pointed atdatacentres.
www2.google.com and www3.google.comhave been pointed at datacentres with the new index some time before www.google.comstarts to show it. There's no reason why any of these four domains shouldn't swap between old and new indices during the update process, hence the term 'Google dance'.
The unusual thing this time is that the link: search and Toolbar PageRank returned by the nine www- domains appear to be old. It would seem sensible to expect a second half to this update, unless Google have something else up their sleeve.

Indexing Catalog with Google

It is a case of dream coming true. You can get all the publicity in the world for your business and limitlessly sell products to online shoppers by indexing your catalog in one of the largest, most popular search engines on the Web - GOOGLE.
Google has lately introduced an advanced system whereby it scans printed catalogs (please note printed catalogs and not online catalogs) into a JPEG format and then runs what is known as an optical character recognition (OCR) program over the JPEG image to convert it into a Web page. The scanned information is then saved to a searchable database.
When browsers enter a search term that matches text in your catalog, Google's catalog search immediately displays a small version of your catalog. The search terms are highlighted in yellow and when they click on the small imagenthey can view the entire page. The new service will allow you to search through the contents of catalogs from over 600 companies.
When you are viewing a catalog page, a friendly navigation bar appears at the top of the screen. This bar facilitates your browsing through the catalog page by page, as if you were flipping the pages of a real catalog. Additionally, youcan also use a keyword to search within a particular catalog or jump to specific pages within it, using the navigation bar. The bar also lets you know the contact particulars about the catalog merchant.
During the trial period, the whole scanning and indexing process is done free by Google. But it certainly cannot be that such a potentially valuable service will remain free for ever. Rush your catalog to Google before the search engine decides to charge fees andmakes this new project a commercial venture. You have two options. Either submit a form to Google recommending the catalog providing all contact information or mail the catalog to Google directly. It is now a great boon to all small businesses to compete with mail order giants without frittering awaytheir entire promotional budget to print and mail catalogs to prospective clients.

As stated earlier, Google Catalogs currently has a collection from over 600 companies. If back issues are included, then the total number of catalogs indexed will be around 1,500. However, Google wants to further raise this number and are vigorously soliciting catalogs from its users as also other catalog vendors. Catalogs pertaining to liquor, tobacco, firearms, or similar products are not acceptable. Catalogs that do not clearly mention the product prices will also not be mentioned. Google is continuously updating its catalog index on an almost daily basis, so new catalogs may appear at any time.
It is pertinent to note that so far, all the catalogs are only from US-based companies. There are no immediate plans to add catalogs from other countries outside the United States. But a rethinking is very likely depending on feedback from users.
Even if you succeed with Google, an online catalog alone may not increase your sales meaningfully. Many online visitors will not be keen to take the pains to call to place an order. They mayas well choose another site that allows placing orders online. Get into a state of total readiness if you want to be in the race. It's a great way to get a Web presence and when this is further strengthened by your top search engine rank, you will open the floodgates for interested visitors to enter deep into your Web site.

Rich snippets for shoppingsites

When the holiday season begins, it is only to be expected that there will be rich snippets for all online business and e-commerce sites. To those who are lessfamiliar, rich snippets are search results made more captivating using the structured data from your web pages. It usually displays price, availability, and product features and is generally informative and customer-friendly.
Many sites offer Merchant Center feeds for use in Google Product Search - thus simplifying most of the input needed for rich snippets. For Google to make use of Merchant Center feeds for rich snippets, you should also use the rel= ‘canonical’ link on your product pages. This way, Google can match the URLs in your feed to the pages found by its crawler. If prices for your products are generally constant, then adding markup is an effective alternate method to provide product data for rich snippets.
For most online business owners, having a Merchant Center feed is the right option as your product details, prices andavailability are updated fast. The data can also be shown not only in rich snippets but also in other applications like Google Shopping and Product Ads. For merchants whose product prices and availability status seldom change and if they are not too keen to set up a feed, then adding markup is a perfect option.
Google has already made the announcement that it will support enhanced search results for shopping sites – thus paving the way for E-commerce sites to hop on to the rich snippet bandwagon. The rich snippet display will surely provide a compelling case for click-through with pricing and availability details right below the page link.
On their Webmaster Central blog, Google has announced support for the ‘rich snippets’ for shopping and Ecommerce sites synchronizing with the holiday season. Now, e-tailers can feed Google with prices, availability status, and product reviews so that Google might include that information in the snippets of text that make up its organic listings.
Google offers you two different options for providing them with the relevant information - (1) using data feed of the type that many merchants employ with Google’s Product Search or (2) adding markup code directly to your website to indicate which data are prices, which are product reviews etc.
Google suggests as its preference the Merchant Center feed method for providing this data to ensure product prices, availability, and reviews can reflect the most updated information. The other less favored option for providing this information to rich snippets is to markup the details on yourwebsite to make it easier for Google’s spiders to determine which areas of yourpages represent what information.
It needs to be mentioned that retailers have a third option and that is to leave Google to their own methods to obtain the information they want. However, Google claims that the data feed option will facilitate quick updating of rich snippet information. On the other hand, if you mark up data on your site, it may take Google a couple of weeks for rich snippets to display.
Many suggest that Google should provide for a time stamp on the information they show to help users. There are also others who advocate thatGoogle could offer merchants the optionto insist that rich snippets are not shownfor their own listings.

Google Penguin Update Helps to Eradicate Black Hat SEO

Penguin, a large change to Google’s algorithm, was one of the top trends worldwide on Twitter (via the story entitled “Google Penguin Has SEO’s In Panic Mode” from SocialMediaToday.com ). Whilst the title isn’t correct grammar, it still trended on Twitter which shows how much Google’sPenguin update is going to have an effect, especially in the world of Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO.
The SEO world has are two distinctive methods of Search Engine Optimisation; white hat SEO and black hat SEO.
White hat SEO is the legitimate way of conducting SEO, using honest techniques that Google advises and agrees with. These include fair and natural link building, as well as writing high-quality and relevant content on your webpage, including keywords that fit within the content whilst still being a literate piece of text. These are in order to boost your organic page rankings.
Black hat SEO is the opposite, using spamming techniques, hidden text and keyword stuffing, in order to trick the search engine. The Penguin update is setto punish websites that use these techniques, making SEO incredibly difficult for black hat SEOs.
However, for SEO agencies such as Revax Media, who only ever use white hat techniques, the most recent Google update poses no problem. The article that trended on Twitter made it seem as if our jobs as SEOs would be more difficult, sending us into “panic mode”. The only agencies or SEOs that will be panicking are those that use harmful techniques, i.e. black hat, and are only looking for a quick fix to your ranking issues. This is why you should only use agencies such as Revax Media, as we willshow you short-term and, more importantly, long-term rankings.

Link Building Tips and Techniques

As of right now, back links are the most important factor when it comes to the search engines deciding where to rank your website. Inthe future that may change, but there is no doubt that back links will still continue to be an important factor in the ranking process.Because of this fact,it is important that you steadily build links leading back to your website. In this post I will talk about a few effective ways to accomplish this including creating Link Bait, Blogging, Press Releases, and Article But, I won’t just tell you to use these techniques I will also tell you how to use them correctlyand effectively.

Before I start, I want to make clear that I am not concerned about whethera link has been tagged“nofollow” or not.
Research by a few independent SEO firms has confirmed that while PageRank is not transferred through “nofollow”links, overall rankings are affected by “nofollow”links in a positive way.I will address this issue and discuss the studies in-depth in a future post, but in the meantime I wantto make it clear that some of the link building tips I will discuss include building links from sites that “nofollow” their outbound links and that I believe this is a non-issue. I believe this because Google built their entire algorithm on the fact that back links were the most important ranking factor. I do not believe that Google intended the “nofollow” tag to be usedas widely as it currently is and they would never allow millions of webmasters to ruin all the work they put into their algorithm by tagging every outbound link on their site as “nofollow.”

Google may say that “nofollow” links have no impact on rankings, but I simply don’t believe them based on studies I have seen and simple common sense. In my opinion Google continues to say that “nofollow” links have no affect on rankings in order to keep their intended targets of the “nofollow” tag – spammers – in check, but in reality they allow “nofollow” links to have at least some positive effect on rankings.

Link Building Tip 1: Blogging
Blogging is the easiest and most effective way to gain back links. Not only can blogging lead to back links, but it also is a way to consistently add content to your website, and we all know that Google loves sites that consistently add quality content.
The key to gaining back links through blogging is to make sure that you are blogging about topics that are either directly related to your businesses or field of expertise or that provide useful information for your readers. Once you have found your blogging niche, the next thing to do is create an RSS feed and submit both your blog URL and RSS feed to as many blog directories as you can find. I have clients that gain hundreds of back linkseach and every month simply by blogging on a consistent basis. I recommend that you blog at least oncea month, but once a week is even better.

Link Building Tip 2: Press Releases
Press releases are a great way for businesses to gain back links to their sites. There are many free press release distribution sites out there to submit your releases to, but using a paid service like PRWeb can result in hundreds of back links from major news organizations with just one press release. Making press releases a regular part of your link building strategy can result in thousands of quality back links over the course of year.
Your press releases can be about anything that you want related to yourbusiness. Whether it is about an expansion, the purchase of new expensive equipment, a fundraiser or sponsoring a local event, a press release is a great way to get the word out about your business as well as a way to gain valuable back links which will help your search engine rankings.

Link Building Tip 3: Article
has been declared dead as an SEO and link building technique many times over and it is still alive and kicking. There are rumors of its demise once again floating around in cyber space becauseof Google’s new algorithm update thatwas released on April 25th. I for one won’t believe article marketing is deaduntil I see it with my own eyes. It is true that many article sites, such as EzineArticles, took a hit in the rankings when Google’s Panda was released, but the effects were not fatal and Ezine has since taken steps to ensure that the articles posted on their site are of better quality moving forward.
I ran my own SEO test over the last two months and found that article marketing is still alive and well. I took a brand new site and wrote article after article and posted them on EzineArticles, Articlebase, Articlecity, and others. The articles were the only source of back links I actively pursued. The results have been astounding so far. Five out of the six keyword phrases I am currently optimizing for are now on the first page of Google, Bing and Yahoo!. I cannot definitively prove that the sole reason for these rankings are the articles and the links contained in them, but the anecdotal evidence is quite strong and the most important thing is that my site has not been penalized or fallen in the rankings over the last two months. Things could change and I will keep an eye on it and report to all of you if theydo, but as of right now, article marketing is alive and well and a greatway to acquire back links to your website.
The key to good article marketing is creating informative, original and unique articles. Don’t just write one article and post it on 10 different article sites. Instead, write 10 differentarticles and post them on 10 different sites. Make sure you mix up the anchor text of your links as well.
If done right, article marketing can result in a ton of quality back links and increased rankings.

Link Building Tip 4: Directories and Review Sites
Using business directories and review sites isn’t the most innovative link building strategy, but it is a proven way to gain back links to your site. These back links aren’t the most valuable, but believe it or not, some of these directories actually get a decent amount of traffic and being listed in them can drive traffic to your site. The number of people who visit your site is taken into account by Google when they decide where to rank you. Google figures that if a lot of people are visiting your site and spending time on it then your site must have valuable or interesting information on it and they will rank your site accordingly.
When listing your site in business directories start with industry specific directories if they exist for your industry. A few years ago I might have suggested that you submit your site to DMOZ, but now I would recommend that you not waste your time corruption and “pay-to-list” schemes going on within the organization. I havesubmitted numerous sites over the years and only a handful have ever been accepted even though I followed their guidelines exactly. After submitting to industry specific listings, submit your site to any and all local business directories in your area. After that pick a few business directories a week and submit your site. Over the course of time you will find that you have gained a large number of back links. Once again, these aren’t the bestkind of back links, but they are not worthless either and they can drive traffic to your site.
There are a few review sites that I recommend as well. The ones I always list my sites and my clients’ sites in areManta, Yelp, and Angie’s List. Don’t be afraid of negative reviews. If you receive a negative review, the best thing to do is find out if it is legitimate. If it is legitimate, then your best courseof action is to reply to the comment on the review site and try to minimize the damage. If it is not legitimate, you can contact the site administrator and ask them to remove it. You will have to prove it is an illegitimate complaint or they won’t take it off their site. The links from these sites can also drive traffic to your website.
Another benefit of listing your website on sites such as Manta, Yelp, and Angie’s List is the improvement of yourGoogle Places listing. Rankings on Google Places are based on a differentalgorithm than the one used to rank organic search listings. Based on independent research, the consensus isthat the most influential factor, in whether or not your local listing will appear in the results, is mentions or reviews of your business across the net.

Link Building Tip 5: Create “Link Bait”
“Link Bait” is content on your website that makes people want to link to it on their own. There are many forms of link bait you can choose to incorporate onto your site. Below are a few examples.
1. Well written, humorous and/or informative content.

This one is a no-brainer. If you have well written, informative, compelling and/or humorous content on your site, people are going to link to it.

2. Widgets/Tools
Creating fun and interactive widgets and tools is a great way to get people to link to your site. I helped a client of ours develop a BMI and calorie counter widget. That widget has resulted in many inbound links since its creation.

3. Video
Many people and businesses have a YouTube channel. YouTube is great, but why should you push people to your YouTube channel when you can get them to watch your videos right on your site. By embedding your videos right on your website you will encourage people to link to them thereby gaining back links.

==============================

These are just five examples of link building techniques cerpen666. There are others, but these five are the most effective. In the future I will write about some other effective, but less used link building techniques from cerpen666.
