“I've seen more multiple-offer situations in the last five months than in the last four years and it's all about the pricing,” says Colette Connelly of Prudential Rubloff Properties, who works out of the brokerage's Lincoln Park office. “It is a good thing that properties are selling, even though they are at much lower prices, because it's whittling down the inventory.”
Yet sellers are still facing scrutiny from buyers at any price point, says Coldwell Banker agent Carol Cikanek, who sells homes in tony western suburbs includingHinsdale and Oak Brook.
“People are analytical, they're going to do their homework,” she says. “They're finding the solution by listening to these listing agents who have an analytical approach that creates a science out of real estate, versus the olden days when everything was about ‘Oh, you're going to absolutely love the fireplace.'”
